During these ten days, the whole of Cadiz dresses up and its streets fill with people. With the famous ‘chirigotas’ that every year prepare hundreds of funny street shows. The first Saturday of Carnival, February 14th, is when there are the most people in costume on the streets. Thousands of people arrive from all over Spain and put on their costumes.

But far from ending there, throughout Carnival week there are performances by the choirs, chirigotas, comparsas and quartets of the different groups that have been preparing for Carnival all year. The elaborate costumes are accompanied by a corrosive humour that leaves no one unmoved by the current social, political and economic reality.

People's party

Carnival in Cadiz is one of those popular festivals where the real protagonist is the people, their art and above all the fun. It pays homage to no other saint than the fun and no other virgin than the laughter.

The chirigotas, both official and illegal, sharpen their grace and irony to criticise with humour and sarcasm what has happened throughout the year, bringing smiles to the faces of all those who come to the streets to experience live one of the most authentic and hooligan festivals in Andalusia.

It can be a perfect opportunity to visit Cádiz and take a trip around Andalucía with a camper van for hire. Choose one and dress up!
